The follwing is meant to be a guide for joining the CVSA, either as and individual player or as a team. In general, the CVSA accepts applications from individual teams, who then register their individual players. The league doesn't conduct a draft to place individual players on teams, but does have an Available Players page where individual players looking to get onto teams are able to post detailed biographical information in order to facilitate placement and contact from an interested team captain.

The Central Virginia Soccer Association (CVSA) will conduct its 29th summer competition starting this June. The league is run solely for the enjoyment and recreation of its players and to support continuing soccer operations for all interested amateur soccer players. The CVSA is the only summer league in the Richmond Metropolitan area to be santioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), United States Soccer Federation (USSF), and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

A. Fees

1. Player: $50. This includes a uniform t-shirt.
2. Returned Checks: $25 per occurence.


B. Roster Limits: rosters will not be limited as to how many players they may have. The MINIMUM is ten. For the Coed Division, the minimum is five females, ten total.

C. Team Registration Date: the registration meeting for the Summer '04 season will be held Monday, May 17, 2003, 6:30 PM. The meeting will be held at Bryan Park Shelter #3. We are looking for team registrations only; no indivdual player registrations.

D. Registration & Financial Deadlines
1. $300 per team is due by Monday, May 17. This deposit counts toward a team's $50 per player total balance; it is not in addition to the $50 per player team total balance.

2. Individual player registration forms (for new players) and player passes are due by Friday, June 11.

3. The Roster Freeze Date (RFD) is close of business, Monday, July 12.

4. Balances are due Friday, July 23.

5. PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT PLAYERS PAY BY CHECK, AND MAKE THEIR CHECKS OUT TO "C.V.S.A.". THE CVSA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST, MISPLACED, OR STOLEN FUNDS PAID IN CASH TO TEAM CAPTAINS, OR CHECKS WRITTEN TO ANY PARTY OTHER THAN THE "CENTRAL VIRGINIA SOCCER ASSOCIATION".

E. Registration Documents
1. Individual player registration forms are required for all players who have not been previously registered with the CVSA.
2. Team registration forms are required prior to the scheduling of any games.
3. Insurance claim forms are now available on the CVSA website. The Insurance information sheet should be read before filing a claim.


F. Player Passes & Rosters
1. Player passes will be used for the Summer '04 season. Captains are responsible for having validated player passes at each game. A validated pass is one that has the current "Summer '04" on the back. If your players are new to the league and do not have player passes, THEY MUST HAVE THEM MADE ! ! This can be done at the office of the Richmond Kickers, who serve as registrars of the CVSA.

2. Captains are also responsible for having current rosters on hand at the game. A current roster is one that has "Summer '04" printed in the upper left corner. The referees will not check passes and rosters before games, HOWEVER TEAM CAPTAINS HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHECK THE ROSTERS AND PASSES OF THE OPPOSING TEAM. TEAMS THAT FAIL TO COMPLY OR FAIL TO HAVE THEIR PASSES AND ROSTERS PRESENT AT EACH GAME ARE SUBJECT TO FINES & FORFIETURE OF THEIR GAMES. The referees and the CVSA Board reserve the right to have player passes and rosters checked for any team suspected of being non-compliant.

3. Official CVSA Summer '04 T-shirts are required. The referees are instructed to prohibit field players from playing without proper jerseys.

4. The Richmond Kickers are handling registration this season. Their office is located at 2320 W. Main Street. Their phone number is 644-KICK. They will validate passes and generate official rosters. PLEASE CALL AHEAD. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT TEAM CAPTAINS DROP OFF THEIR PASSES AND PICK THEM UP LATER. INDIVIDUAL WALK-IN REGISTRATION WILL BE COMPLETED AS TIME ALLOWS. G. Dual Registration: Players may be registered on more than one team simultaneously. They must pay a full registration fee for each team they play on.

A. Voice Mail: the league voice mail will NOT be updated throughout the season, except in cases of weather cancellation. The league will use the CVSA website as the primary form of communication. The Voice Mail is at (804) 744-CVSA, and these are the following options:
1. Press "1" if you are a player looking to get on a team.
2. Press "2" for weather related announcements.
3. Press "3" if you are a referee calling in a game report.


B. Website: the league website will have the entire schedule for the season, however changes will be reported to the voice mail first. Scores and standings will be updated weekly. You are currently on the website, so we will not bother to give the address. Please familiarize yourselves with this website, as it will contain all information that you will need for the season.

A. Divisional Alignment
1. The following divisions will be attempted:
a. Open Divisions
i. Premier
ii. First
iii. Second
iv. Third
v. Fourth
vi. Fifth

b. Age Specific
i. Over-30
ii. Over-40
iii. Over-50
Note: depending upon the input from the interested teams, the age classifications may be adjusted to suit the participating players, or dropped altogether if there is a lack of interest.


c. Gender Specific
i. Coed
ii. Women's Premier
Note: depending upon the input from the interested teams, the gender classifications may be instituted to suit the participating players.


2. Emphasis will be on creating divisions even in number and skill level. The exact makeup of the divisions will of course be subject to interest.


B. Regular Season
1. Teams will be split into divisions and will complete a round-robin within their division.
2. Sundays: Coed, Over-30, Over-40, & Over-50.
3. Mondays & Wednesdays: Premier & Second.
4. Tuesdays & Thursdays: First & Third.
5. Sunday games start June 13; Weekday games start June 21.
7. There will be no games July 1, 4, or 5 for the Independence Day holiday.
8. Summer '04 Specifics - FIFA Rules apply with the following modifications:
a. Play will be seven-a-side.
b. Teams will play two 25-minute halves.
c. No Offsides.
d. Goalkeepers may not punt or drop-kick the ball.
e. COED RULES:
i. Team makeup: the two rules to remember are -
• Four males maximum - there may be no more than four male players on the field at any time.
• Five players minimum - a team needs to field at least five players in order to start and maintain a game.
There are many different permutations possible, but as long as these two rules are met you are fine.
ii. If a male player is red-carded, then the maximum number of males allowed on the field is three. If a second male player is red-carded, then the maximum number of males allowed on the field is two.
iii. Participants in the penalty kick shootout are not limited to only those on the field at the end of regulation; any team member may participate. For the Coed Division, kicking order must be male-female-male-female, etc., or vice-versa.

f. No overtime will be played as ties will stand. Playoff ties will be settled by penalty kicks. Participants in the penalty kick shootout are not limited to only those on the field at the end of regulation; any team member may participate.


C. Tournaments
1. There will be a tournament at the end of the regular season to determine a champion.
2. If, due to inclement weather the regular season is pushed back sufficiently to warrant a cancellation of the playoffs, the regular season will stand to determine the league champions.


D. PLEASE NOTE
1. Substitutions may be done on any goal kick, corner kick, or throw-in.
2. NO SUBSTITUTIONS "ON THE FLY".
3. DIRECT AND INDIRECT FREE KICKS ARE AWARDED JUST AS IN 11-A-SIDE. THERE IS NO SUCH RULE THAT "ALL FREE KICKS ARE INDIRECT"!
4. Teams need at least five players to to play a regulation game.
